An installation of large and small reconstructed abstract paintings connected by neon lights

Daydreams are ‘a visionary creation of the imagination experienced while awake’. They evoke something amorphous, fluffy, unfocused or unresolved; an unformed possibility. Contrast this to the razor sharp focus of a Laser Beam. The magical tipping point between both of these states is where the creative act happens and is the focus of this, Sandra Beccarelli’s fourth solo show in the gallery

An installation of large and small abstract paintings on both floors of the gallery reveal the constant exploration of techniques and media within Beccarelli’s work. Most of the pieces on display contain fragments of one another; a continually evolving reconfiguration of ideas and thoughts.

Neon lights guide visitors upstairs to connect scattered paintings, create links, disrupt order and generate a playful environment. A reminder that dreams are beyond reality and constraint and where anything is possible…

Invited daydream/ Laser Beam collaborators, Lawrence Westland and Gabriel Heaney have brought their imaginations to the exhibition: Lawrence has created an electronic musical interpretation to accompany the show and Gabriel has designed special alcoholic and non- alcoholic cocktails which will be served at the private view.

About the artist

The physical process of painting and the nature of materials are at the core of Beccarelli’s practice. Change, impermanence and continuous movement, in nature, the urban environment and the human condition are themes that inspire her. She questions the meaning of “surface”, what is hidden or revealed and often works between the two, uniting front and back either by syringing, drilling or sewing through the painted support. As the painting develops on both sides so do the infinite possibilities. She often erases as much as she applies allowing the painting to alter daily and sees these processes as metaphors to the ever changing events happening in the world outside of her studio and the emotional & psychological changes within it.
