Imagining the Forest: Cross-Cultural Conversations
Richmond Arts and Ideas Festival
12-29 June 2025
Events: TBC
Artists Rafael Vilela, an ally of the Guarani Mbyá (São Paulo), Nadeem Al Karimi (Karachi), and Eelyn Lee (London) will create new works, supported by ‘Long Table’ events for public debate, and showcased at the Richmond Arts and Ideas Festival 2025
Imagining the Forest – Cross-Cultural Conversations contributes to Richmond’s thematic focus of ‘Cultural Reforesting’ working with artists and communities to better understand our ecological impact. The ‘Long Table’ events, resulting artworks and this new partnership between Richmond, Karachi and São Paulo, is an urgent and necessary project that will deepen knowledge and activism on the ecological crisis.
This British Council funded programme is a collaboration between Richmond Arts and Ideas Festival (England), Karachi Biennial (Pakistan) and the Guarani community (Brazil).
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The festival theme for 2025 is Cultural Reforesting, a programme initiated by the Richmond Arts Service. A series of artist-led, multi-disciplinary projects, events and performances will take place in different venues around the borough, set in the context of the ecological crises. Each artist project responds to the question – how can we renew our relationship with nature?
Since its inception in 2021 the programme has featured artists, thinkers, scientists, indigenous leaders and more through an impressive forest of projects. Cultural Reforesting is expanding into Richmond Arts and Ideas Festival 2025. Events across the borough will explore our relationship with nature and reflect on the ecological crisis.
