“Suckle” brings together five female artists whose work delves into the raw, intimate realms of motherhood, beasts, phantoms, and fables. Through painting, sculpture, writing, and printmaking, they weave a rich tapestry exploring the quiddity of creatures—both real and imagined—while confronting the primal dichotomies between nature and humanity.
At the heart of this exhibition is the exploration of nourishment, both the act of giving and receiving. Suckle opens up a dialogue about the instinctual need to nourish, to be nourished, and the interdependence that shapes our understanding of identity, transformation, and survival. Animal forms become vessels for these conversations, their presence evoking the rawness of life’s cycles and the tenderness of connection while questioning the fluid boundaries between species and materials.
Through their work, the artists invite us to reflect on our own relationships with the animal world and the myths that shape our understanding of ourselves. Suckle challenges the boundaries between humans and animals, suggesting that the line between them is not so rigid after all and that nourishment—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—is a shared need that transcends form.
